Somerset Speech Therapy offers individualized outpatient speech and language therapy. Based on the results of the speech and language evaluation, a treatment plan is developed with a focus on areas of need and concern. Both long term and short term goals are established and performance data is obtained at each session to monitor and measure a child’s progress.
The speech-language pathologist and parent decides together whether a parent will sit in and observe the session or if a parent will remain in the waiting room and join at the end of the session to review goals and performance. This decision is very individualized based on each child.
A home program is provided for all children. Some home programs are very informal with suggestions on how to incorporate new communication skills at home during the child’s daily routine, play and conversation. In some cases, more formal home programs are provided such as articulation books with pictures of words that target a new speech sound.
At our center, we are dedicated to helping children learn to communicate effectively by providing skilled diagnostic and intervention services in a warm, caring and supportive environment. We utilize a variety of intervention approaches tailored to the unique needs of each individual child. Through ongoing consultation, progress updates, and home programs, we provide parents with the tools they need to help their child learn and grow.
What Parents are Saying
“We have been working with Kris for the past 4 and a half years, since our son was diagnosed with autism. Kris is excellent, always patient with our son and seeking out new ways to help him to continue to advance his speech. She has incorporated various visual supports according to his needs and more recently with his AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication) device. She is also a great resource to us as parents to let us know how to help him at home as much as we can.”
“I first met Kristine when my son was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She met with my husband and I and answered our list of questions. Her personality made us feel very comfortable and at ease. Fast forward 4+ years and Kristine has become a huge part of our family. Not only is she an amazing speech and language therapist, she is also an amazing and caring person. She is an excellent professional and someone who listens and understands what challenges parents are faced with having a child with special needs. I recommend Kristine and her services to anyone who is in search of a great speech therapist.”
